Designed and developed new padding system for MIPS to reduce rotational motion during an impact.
I developed the MIPS SL originally to address the design requirements of high end helmets which demand maximum ventilation and the lightest weight. By applying the MIPS layer to the helmet padding, the ventilation properties of the helmet are not affected. In addition with this design there is no need for modification to the helmet tooling.
The challenge was ensuring the high standard MIPS performance without sacrificing and comfort or ventilation. By using the pads themselves with the elastomers integrated into the pads it allows the critical 10-15mm of movement that is critical for MIPS to function.
